The Mom Group Nobody Tells You About

Before I had kids, I thought mom groups were optional. Cute, maybe. A nice-to-have.

Then I had kids.

And I realized that what I actually needed — what every new mom, tired mom, working mom, stay-at-home mom, 'I don't know what kind of mom I am yet' mom needs — is a group of women who get it. Not who pretend to get it. Not who offer unsolicited advice with a smile. Women who actually, viscerally, in their bones understand what it feels like to love someone so much it physically hurts and also desperately need them to go to sleep.

That's the mom group nobody tells you about. The real one. The one that happens in DMs and parking lots and whispered conversations at school pickup when someone finally admits they're not fine and the whole group goes oh THANK GOD, me neither.

The kind where we talk about the fact that motherhood is simultaneously the greatest thing that ever happened to us and the most relentlessly demanding job on the planet — and both of those things can be true at the same time.

The kind where we laugh at the chaos because what else are you going to do. The kind where we cheer each other on and also commiserate and also occasionally vent about the same things we've been venting about for three years because some problems don't get solved, they just get better coffee.

You don't have to be a perfect mom to be here. You don't have to have it together. You don't have to pretend the morning went smoothly or that you handled the tantrum with grace or that you are thriving in all areas of your life.

You just have to show up. We'll handle the rest.
